Another Boy!!!!!

I had an ultrasound on Wednesday and we were excited to find out that we are having another boy! Kambria was a little disappointed because she was really hoping to have a baby sister, but she is okay with it! Good thing since she doesn't really have a say in it! :) It will be great for Eli to have a little brother and a playmate!

His name will be Benson LaVerne Watson. The name comes from two of his Great Grandpa's. Benson is the middle name of Jon's Grandpa and LaVerne is the first name of my Grandpa.

We have known for a while that we would name our second boy after my Grandpa because he truly is the best in the world and Jon thinks so too! :) My Grandpa's name is LaVerne Harvey and I didn't want to use either of those for a first name, sorry Grandpa. :) So we started thinking of a first name that would go with LaVerne as the middle name. I asked Jon's mom one day what her dad's full name was and she said Glen B. He didn't like his middle name so he never used it. I went a little further and asked her if she knew what it actually was.......it was Benson. Well I really like it and so does Jon! So that was it......Benson LaVerne! Very fitting and not common just as I like it! :)

FYI~ we are not going to encourage the nickname "Ben"! So please don't call him that when he is born. Thanks! :) If he decides to go by that when he gets older then that will be his decision, but we will always know him as Benson.

You know, when you tell people you don't want then to call your child a certain name, they will, just because you don't want them too. Rude I know. But that is the way people are.

When Cooper was born, we knew people were going to call him Cooper Pooper. I didn't want people to, but I also didn't want to let on that it bothered me. So of course, many people called him that, but I didn't let on that it bothered me, I laughed at it with them. After a while the Cooper Pooper name wore off. Thankfully.

If I were you, I wouldn't let on to people that you don't want them calling him that. After a while thay will catch on that his name is Benson. If they don't, correct them then.

I think I disagree. You know Michael is Michael and NOT Mike and that's because my mom spent the first several years of his life making sure everybody knew it was Michael. Then when he started school she went through it again. MICHAEL. lol. He's definitely Michael now but it was largely because my mom made sure. You're naming him Benson, make sure people call him by his name. :) Congrats again! Oh, and I love Harvey. I've considered it with both my boys but it just hasn't been right yet. I still haven't counted it out entirely.

The bottom line is people need to respect the name that is given to him. I like Benson, and have never been overly fond of Ben, so it works for me. Benny sounds too juvenile. So, I would correct people if it really bothers you. But like Crystyne said, people will get the hint if Ben or Benny don't catch on socially with Benson. :) It could go either way. Only a couple people call Madeleine "Maddy", and I'm okay with that. I just don't deviate from Madeleine because I love her name so much!

I think the key is to not get pushy about it, just call him Benson every time you refer to him, and people will get it. Eventually. And if he chooses Ben later in life, that's just how it will be. :)
